With the return of the dragons, and the rise of Dragon Hunters as a result, the need for Dragon Riders has never been greater. Hiccup and the rest of the original Dragon Riders have started training the next generation to fulfill their mission: ensure the safety of the dragons. A whole new set of Dragon Riders will be in charge of the safety of the archipelago. They will explore further and discover even more new dragons while protecting their home.

Physical Description
EGG The Sonorous Swordfin's glassy, turquoise-colored egg has very few visually striking features. The thick, see-through shell is quite smooth, only very slightly rippled. You'd have to look very closely in order to observe this, though. The only other thing of note about it is that the shell is shot through in places with a slightly bluer color. Again, unless you closely observed the egg, you'd never notice this.
HATCHLING TO ADULT The Sonorous Swordfin is comparable in size to the Night Fury. It has a dorsal ridge and broad wing-fins, which, like the Timberjack's wings, are ultra sharp, capable of cutting through nearly anything with ease. Only stone and metals (except for the softer ones) are mostly impervious. It has a long, streamlined body and no legs, giving it superior speed and agility in the water. It can fly, but cannot survive out of the water for more than several minutes. Its mouth, though somewhat small, is full of many small, sharp teeth. Its scales are typically a gray-green to gray-blue on the top of its body, fading to a very pale turquoise underneath.
Abilities & Weaknesses
Abilities
Hunting Tone To hunt, the Sonorous Swordfin produces a very loud, but nearly ultrasonic (to humans, at least), tone. Something about this tone draws in other animals (dragons especially) on an almost instinctual level. Although humans may just perceive this as a splitting headache, a literally-deafening silence, or something else, there are very few dragons which can resist the allure.
Wing Slice As mentioned, both the wing-fins and dorsal ridge are sharp enough to cut through most things, and these are its primary weapon. Whether hunting or defending itself, the technique is basically the same: Using its superior agility, it swims rapidly (or leaps and flies, in the case of hunting still-airborne prey) all around its target, inflicting deep, damaging cuts with its natural blades.
Blood Tracking The Sonorous Swordfin has an acute sense of taste and smell (in the water, anyway). This allows it to use the blood of injured, escaped prey, for instance, to track it down again.
Weaknesses
Tidal Limitations As a Tidal Class dragon, the Swordfin cannot survive out of the water for any longer than several minutes. If it gets too dry, it will die.
Built For Water While this is a huge strength in its element, being out of the water makes this a giant disadvantage. Having no legs means that should one get beached, it is quite difficult for it to return to the water. It is also heavy for its size when compared to other, non-Tidal dragons, so taking flight from a stationary position (I.E. on land) is usually impossible.
Bright Light As this dragon spends its time underwater, its eyes are more sensitive to light than some other dragons', since the water absorbs some. While most of the time this doesn't make much difference, very bright, sunny days can be painful when it's above the water.
Behavior & Training
Personality "Predator" is the best short description of the Sonorous Swordfin's personality. Fierce and relentless, almost nothing messes with this dragon... and those that do usually don't live to regret it. Its short temper and aggressive nature make it very solitary. The only time more than one can be found (alive) in a given area is during mating season. Training As far as is known, this dragon cannot be trained. Attempting it is not recommended.
Additional Information
Eggs are laid on sand just under the water's surface, where the sun can keep them warm; the parents have no part in raising the young.
The Sonorous Swordfin first drinks the blood of its prey, then slowly eats the flesh.
Another hunting tactic sometimes employed is to draw the prey deep underwater with the "song" until it drowns.
The Thunderdrum is the natural enemy of the Sonorous Swordfin.
The image above is Crystalguitars1214's amazing interpretation of my textual description of the species. It is neither strictly right nor strictly wrong; I encourage you to come up with your own mental image from the description.
Please note, I have a lot of stuff going on, so I can't guarantee I'll be particularly active here, but I can guarantee I'll at least try!I have several headcanons I may reference in my roleplaying. You can check them out here!
Congratulations! Your new breed of dragon has been accepted into the Book of Dragons. Please note that others may also use this breed of dragon now, even if you become inactive.
