Astrid is a petite Viking woman with a heart-shaped face and pale blue eyes. Her hair is light blonde with strands of silver, hinting at her age. She keeps it parted down the middle and wraps the tails in ribbons, which drape over her shoulders and reach just past her waist. Her attire has changed much throughout her life, and she now wears clothing more fitting of her age and status. She wears a thin leather kransen around her head, just above the eyebrows, that has a much more elegant look in comparison to her old studded kransen. Her under-dress is white linen and ankle-length with long sleeves, which she usually wears with hard leather arm-guards. The under-dress features golden yellow trim along the neckline and bottom hem, with darker runic designs sewn in. A shorter, teal-blue, wool apron dress drapes over the white dress and is secured at the shoulder straps with brooches, and laced at the sides with twine. The bottom hem of the apron dress features a brown and maroon lattice-like design. Attached at the brooches on her dress is a white fur cape with skull-shaped clasps that she typically only wears in colder weather. Her attire is finished with a thick leather belt with an iron plate that is engraved with the Hooligan Tribe insignia, similar to the one that Hiccup wears, and knee-high leather boots. She still has her dragon-scale armor, which she wears into battles and on Dragon Rider missions. The armor is made of leather with Stormfly's shed scales sewn on top to create a fireproof and highly durable armor. The helmet is made in a way to resemble the shape of a Deadly Nadder head, complete with spikes to create the frill that is iconic to the species. The suit also features hidden pieces of leather that can attach to the armguards, creating a wingsuit that allows her to glide short distances.
Personality
Astrid is a tough, self-assured, Viking warrior with a strong sense of duty, who will do whatever it takes to protect those she cares about. She will always do what must be done without regard for herself, so when trouble threatens the people and dragons that she loves, Astrid stops at nothing to defend them. She is very loyal and supportive of her friends and family, which is especially true of Hiccup. She is always there for him and the first to support him and help him through difficult situations. Her methods of encouragement vary, but she rarely outright gives him the answer to his problems. Instead, she boosts up his confidence and stands by him as he walks through the solution at his own pace. She is rational and sometimes blunt, but she shows steadfast loyalty and compassion to those close to her. Although she has grown much as a person throughout her time as a Dragon Rider, she can still be fiery in certain circumstances and a little short-tempered. She can come off as a little prideful but is always willing to own up to her mistakes. A warrior and perfectionist to the core, she believes that everything can be improved, and always looks for ways that she can better herself. However, her perfectionist nature can turn her into a bit of a "drill sergeant" when it comes to battle training, and she won't hesitate to let someone know if their technique is sloppy or needs improvement. This can make her a tough instructor to learn under, but could also make someone a better warrior and Dragon Rider. Despite her fiery and emotional personality, she isn't always a tough warrior woman. As she has matured, she has grown more relaxed and has developed more of a playful side. She loves to goof around with Hiccup and her children and often plays with Stormfly and the other dragons. She is much more prone to quiet moments and spends her free time simply relaxing and enjoying quality time with those she holds dear.
History
Family Tree - Hiccup Haddock - Husband - Zephyr Haddock - Daughter - Nuffink Haddock - Son After the dragons left to live in the Hidden World, Astrid and Hiccup began their lives together as Chief and Chieftess. The two were married in the winter, in the middle of the village under a statue honoring Stoick the Vast. It wasn't long before they had their first child, and a second one followed a couple of years later. During that time, New Berk had been built into a proper village, with shops and houses and pulley systems to scale the large cliffs they now called home. The other Dragon Riders settled down and found new occupations within the village, or enjoyed a peaceful retirement. Astrid maintained her friendship with Heather and often sent letters to her with trade ships. Life was good in New Berk. That is until news reached them that someone from the South was capturing any dragons that did not join Toothless and the others in the Hidden World. Everyone was upset at the news, especially Hiccup, who wanted to rush off and rescue them. As much as Astrid agreed, she brought up an important point: they hadn't really done a Dragon Hunter ship raid without their dragons before. The old team was brought together to come up with a plan before they sailed off to free the dragons. Returning victorious, they decided to continue rescuing dragons and lead them to the Hidden World. However, without their dragons, the raids had become much more difficult, and more than once they returned to New Berk empty-handed. Hiccup and Astrid sailed to Berserker Island to ask Dagur, and his Chieftess Mala, to help their efforts. With their combined forces, they were able to rescue more and more dragons. The raids went on for months until scouts near Hysteria returned to New Berk with news of a whole fleet of flying contraptions made to hunt dragons. It was assumed that the Hysterians had somehow found the Hidden World, and were preparing an attack. Astrid insisted on being there to defend the dragons, but after a long discussion, she was convinced to stay on New Berk with some of the Berk Guard to protect their home. When the war party returned, she was angry that she couldn't be there to help and insisted she be part of the next battle. The team returned to the entrance of the Hidden World, this time with Astrid among them. For the first time in a long time, Astrid was reunited with Stormfly. It felt good to be back in the saddle and the team was confident that the combined force of Hooligans, Berserkers, and dragons could stop the Hysterian threat. When the full fleet of Hysterian Sky-Ships and warships arrived at the Hidden World, they were ready. Astrid and Stormfly fought valiantly to protect the home of the dragons. The air was filled with the sound of clanking steel, and arrows, nets, and fireballs whizzed by as the Dragon Riders descended on the attackers. Astrid and Stormfly took to the decks of the warships, fighting Hysterians and freeing captured dragons before moving on to the next. A Sky-Ship came crashing down, sinking one of the Hysterian warships. Suddenly, the Hysterian attack stopped. Astrid and Stormfly took to the sky to see what was happening. Her heart sank when she saw one of Toothless' hatchlings, the one they had named Ruffrunner, caged and surrounded by Hysterian soldiers. Hiccup was forced to stand down, and the Hidden World was raided by the Hysterians- who took as many dragons as they could carry. With the Hidden World no longer safe, Hiccup and Astrid took the dragons back to New Berk with heavy hearts. For the next few months, the Dragon Riders returned to their work rescuing dragons from the Hysterians and other Dragon Hunters. With more and more dragons being captured, it was decided that it was time to create a new team of Dragon Riders. Astrid was in charge of getting them battle-ready, while Hiccup taught them everything they needed to know about dragons.
