With the return of the dragons, and the rise of Dragon Hunters as a result, the need for Dragon Riders has never been greater. Hiccup and the rest of the original Dragon Riders have started training the next generation to fulfill their mission: ensure the safety of the dragons. A whole new set of Dragon Riders will be in charge of the safety of the archipelago. They will explore further and discover even more new dragons while protecting their home.

Astrid is highly competitive in nature, completely devoted to her cause, and still holds some of her fiery spirit from her youth. She is fiercely loyal to Berk and does everything she can for them. No longer hiding in her shell, she is much more prone to show her vulnerability and the gentler side of her. Though not hesitant to fight when needed, she is much less prone to violence and steers more towards a diplomatic approach. Her relationship with Hiccup, and her new role as Chieftess, have made her more emotionally secure and sometimes over-confident. As an adult, she is generally more spirited and playful.
Orphaned at a young age, he was found unconscious drifting in the waters surrounding New Berk and had no memory of who he was or where he came from. In his first few days in New Berk, he was treated as a pariah and viewed as a bad omen by many of the tribespeople. He lived on his own and took to stealing what he needed, which made the people avoid him even more. Eventually, a woodsman and his wife took in the orphaned boy and taught him everything he knows. Olvir is mostly quiet and shy, and it isn't easy for him to make friends. He prefers the quiet and solitude of the forest over the hustle and bustle of the village. However, his dream is to someday learn how to tame his dragon companion and join the Dragon Riders.
